Embark on a thrilling 6-day desert tour itinerary from Marrakech, exploring the majestic landscapes of Morocco. This itinerary offers a blend of cultural immersion, ancient history, and breathtaking scenery, ensuring an unforgettable adventure through vibrant cities, rugged mountains, and vast deserts.
Our 6-days, 5-nights journey to the Sahara Desert begins in Marrakech in the morning. We’ll ascend the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, admiring the changing colors and unique rock formations.
After crossing the pass, we’ll explore Talouet and its Kasbah, a 19th-century Moorish-style fortress with stunning mosaics and painted ceilings.
Continuing through the Ounila valley, we’ll reach Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its appearance in famous films. Explore the village and enjoy panoramic desert views from the hilltop.
Finally, spend the night at a traditional hotel, fully embracing the local ambiance.
After a long, winding journey through rugged mountain landscapes and crossing the Tinfifft pass (1700m), we’ll arrive at Agdz. Explore the Ksar and Kasbah Tanougalt, once the center of the Mezguita Berbers.
Continuing along the Oued Draa, Morocco’s longest river, we’ll pass through the Draa village in one of the country’s most fertile valleys. Admire the continuous chain of date trees and well-preserved clay fortresses.
Next, we’ll reach Zagora, an important camel trail station surrounded by palm oases. Consider a side trip to the KSAR of Amezrou for its jewelry workshops. Further ahead, visit Tamgroute, known for its 16th-century Zaouia and Quran library.
Continuing our journey, we’ll venture deeper into the desert near Mhamid, the southernmost oasis of the Draa valley. Head to the closest sand dune region where our desert camp awaits. Enjoy a camel tour until dusk, then spend the night in a nomad’s tent under the starry sky.
After breakfast, our westbound journey on the Best of Morocco 6 Days Tour takes us to the impressive dune field of Chigaga. Traveling across sand roads and stone deserts, we’ll delve deep into the Moroccan Sahara. Along the way, we’ll pause at a beautiful oasis fed by the Source Sacré for a rest.
Continuing onward, we’ll arrive at the mighty Erg Chigaga dunes, home to nomads and their camel herds. At our bivouac, take in the rugged beauty and vastness of the desert. Watch the landscape transform with the shifting sunlight, creating a surreal atmosphere.
Finally, spend the night in a nomad’s tent, fully experiencing the desert ambiance.
Experience the enchanting morning light in the dunes, followed by a peaceful breakfast. Our journey continues across the vast expanse of Lac Iriki, a dried-out lake shimmering white under the sun. Passing a fossil site, we drive through gravel deserts to reach the oasis village of Foum-Zguid, leaving small settlements amid palm groves behind.
Crossing the Anti-Atlas Mountains, we arrive in Taznaght, known for its beautiful carpets and Ouzguita Berbers. The road winds through weathered rock formations to Taroudant, often called “Small Marrakech” or the grandmother of Marrakech. Today, it feels like a small fortified market town on an ancient caravan route.
Finally, spend the night at your riad, completing our day’s adventure in this captivating landscape.
After breakfast at 10 o’clock, you’ll explore the old Medina with a city guide, discovering the capital of the Saadi dynasty. Taroudant briefly served as the dynasty’s capital before relocating to Marrakech.
Following the guided tour, enjoy some free time before returning to spend the night at the same riad.
After breakfast at the riad, we’ll head back to Marrakech, passing through Agadir City where many speak Berber, one of Morocco’s official languages. If time allows, we may visit Agadir Noufla and the beach. By early afternoon, we’ll arrive in Marrakech via the highway, concluding our Morocco 6-Day Tour & Sahara Desert Itinerary..
